Recent Work

Massport CEO Job Description

As Massport seeks a new CEO, our coalition has crafted a comprehensive vision for the ideal candidate—one who not only possesses strong leadership qualities but also prioritizes the needs and concerns of our community. By advocating for a CEO who reflects our values and commitment to environmental justice, we aim to ensure that our voices are heard at the highest levels of leadership.

Parks Over Pavement:
No Haul Road

Our waterfront is not just a scenic backdrop but is vital to our community. Drawing on expertise in environmental justice and transportation planning, we oppose a proposed haul road project between Logan Airport and cargo facilities, threatening traffic flow, public safety, and waterfront air quality. Standing firm, we fight to preserve waterfront access and uphold community members' quality of life.

No Eastie Substation

In the face of proposed industrial projects endangering our community, we refuse to stay silent. Many coalition members have actively opposed a hazardous electrical substation in a flood zone within our community. By advocating for relocating such infrastructure to safer areas under Massport's control, we protect the health, safety, and environmental integrity of our communities for generations to come.

Additional and Ongoing Work

Little Amal Walks East Boston

When Little Amal, a symbol of hope for climate-displaced people worldwide, made her journey to East Boston, we welcomed her with open arms. Her presence served as a powerful reminder of the urgent need to address climate-induced displacement and foster empathy within our community. By standing in solidarity with Little Amal, we're amplifying the voices of those affected by climate change and inspiring positive action in our own backyard.

DIY Box Filter Workshop

Empowering residents to breathe cleaner air, we hosted a DIY Box Filter Workshop. Recognizing the importance of accessible solutions, we guided participants in constructing their own box filters—an affordable alternative to traditional HEPA air purifiers. These DIY filters cost less and circulate more air, increasing effectiveness against indoor air pollutants. By equipping our community with practical knowledge and resources, we foster resilience and empower them to protect their health.

Air Purifiers in Home Daycares

Children are our future, and their health and well-being are paramount. That's why we took action to install air purifiers in 31 home daycares across East Boston, ensuring that our youngest and some of our most vulnerable residents have clean, safe environments to learn and grow. By proactively addressing the impact of air pollution on vulnerable populations, we're making tangible strides toward creating a healthier future for our community.

Deep Dive on Air Quality Research

Through engaging discussions with scientists, health professionals, and other experts, residents have gained insights into the technologies utilized to measure air quality, the significance of accurate measurements, and the effects of air quality on public health. By fostering collaboration between scientific expertise and community engagement, we're paving the way for informed action and tangible progress in our mission for cleaner, healthier air.

No Idling at Logan Airport

At Logan Airport, every idle minute contributes to pollution and compromises air quality in our communities. Through targeted awareness campaigns and proactive initiatives, we're addressing vehicle idling head-on, advocating for responsible practices, and implementing measures to reduce idling time. By improving air quality and fostering a healthier environment, we're making a tangible difference and setting a precedent for proactive environmental stewardship.

Collaboration with Elected Officials

We regularly partner with elected officials, including City of Boston's Mayor Michelle Wu, her Chief of Staff, and local/state representatives, to ensure community engagement, influence priorities, and amplify community needs. By providing feedback on environmental justice legislation, we drive positive change in air quality regulations. Through ongoing dialogue and strategic advocacy, we work towards a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
