GBH Greater Boston Interview with Adam Reilly

For decades, East Boston activists have clashed with the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) as they’ve fought against air and noise pollution from Logan Airport. When Massport announced it was looking for a new CEO, East Boston residents and activists wanted a say in who would fill the role. Sandra Nijjar, a member of Mothers Out Front and Founder of the East Boston Community Soup Kitchen, and John Walkey, Director of Climate Justice at Greet Roots and a board member of Airport Impact Relief, Inc. joined Adam Reilly to share their criteria for the ideal candidate.

Four new gates and 100 years of aviation history were celebrated Friday at Boston Logan International Airport.

State and local officials gathered for an afternoon ceremony celebrating the Terminal E expansion, which opened without fanfare in August.

On Tuesday, December 12, environmental activists from East Boston’s Logan Community Clean Air Coalition met with state regulators, environmental justice lawyers, and the city of Boston to discuss flaws in the environmental review system for Logan International Airport. Members of Massport’s leadership were also in attendance.

To Curb Traffic, Don’t Build Roads

A common and justified gripe among East Boston residents of all backgrounds, cultures, and experiences is our neighborhood’s relentless traffic. Situated at the juncture of two major highways and surrounded on three sides by the largest transportation facility in the Greater Boston area, Eastie is consistently and frustratingly choked with automobiles…With this constant community irritation as a backdrop, it is all the more bewildering and saddening that some of our neighbors are backing Cargo Ventures’ (CV) attempt to take the waterfront along Chelsea Creek to build a road for yet more heavy traffic to make its way to and from Logan Airport.
